Courtney Shanade Salter, born April 26, 1991 also known professionally as Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the debut female to be signed to J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. Dreamville Records released her debut EP titled Pho in October 2016, and she was able to get recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. It came out in May of 2019. Ari Lennox first uploaded her music on the internet in 2012. Her debut album Ariography and her mixtape debut in 2013 the mixtape Five Finger Discount. In 2014 Ari Lennox released her single Bound along with her self-released mixtape Five Finger Discount. Sweat It is included on Omen's Elephant Eyes album, which was released on July 21 2015. Later that year her music began to circulate throughout the Dreamville team as J. Cole wanted her to collaborate with him on some potential references to Rihanna. The news was released on December 8, she signed with Dreamville Records. The release album Revenge of the Dreamers II, she appeared on the song Backseat along with Cozz. The 21st of October, 2016, her EP Pho was released. Ari Lennox later appeared on J. Cole's track Change and performed as an opening act for the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour in 2017. In 2018, she was able to guest feature on two songs with her label-mates EarthGang on Nothing but the Best and Bas on Icarus. Ari Lennox debuted her first single, Shea Butter Baby, Whipped Cream on the 16th of July in 2018, which was released on July 16th, 2018. A music video then released in September. Then, in November, she released two singles, forty Shades of Choke & Grampa. In November 2013 she released No One as well as Pedigree. Then she appeared on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on a track entitled Shea Butter Baby on November 16 and released as a single in February, 2019, for her debut album of the same name. This track, which was released with a video uploaded to YouTube 20 February 2019 was watched more than 3 million times within the first seven days. In December 2018 the singer was a part of the From East Atlanta With Love Tour that featured 6LACK.
